I've already added the functions for it in DUMII (dum.acc.umu.se 2001),
but it is currently only used in a single test command (crystaltest <msg>)...

We've got a few gameboards that would be nice to use in this way, we
already have some support for adding such output to them (all games are
observable via the "observe" command, and the output from them are
somewhat centralized), but a few of them are pretty big (~70x20)
and would work best with a detached window. This is also the wrong time
of the year for me to hack on anything so I don't think we'll add
anything more until the winter.
